Connecting Classrooms: How IH Dublin and IH Santiago Students Built Global Friendships Through Writing

IH Dublin and IH Santiago students collaborated on a writing project exploring connection, culture, and English communication. Discover how global learning strengthens language skills.

One of the most powerful parts of studying English abroad is the chance to build meaningful relationships across cultures. This year, IH Dublin partnered with IH Santiago in Chile for a collaborative writing project led by Teachers Arthur and Katia.

Exploring the Theme of “Connection” in English

Students were asked to write about what connection means to them—especially when living or studying abroad. They discussed:

  • How people build friendships in a new country

  • How Christmas creates moments of kindness and community

  • How culture influences the way we communicate

Students expressed their ideas through photos, music, and short videos.

A Chilean student beautifully summarised the feeling of the project:
“People connect during Christmas; they act kindly and try to help others. That’s why Christmas is such a beautiful season.”

Cross-School Collaboration Strengthens English Skills

Students from both countries read and commented on each other’s work. This exchange helped them:

  • Practise real communication

  • Improve writing confidence

  • Understand cultural differences

  • Develop digital literacy in English
